In Beholder, players step into a country that is rotting from within, where war and oppression have pushed society down a dark path. In the context of the country falling into chaos, instead of recruiting and training professional spies, the government chose to take advantage of the locals to reduce costs and make it easier to hide. People like Carl are called Beholders – observers hidden among the community.
Your daily job is not simply fixing the pipes or collecting rent. The real mission is to install listening devices, break into rooms when the tenant is not there, rummage through the belongings and record any abnormalities. Each report sent back can change the fate of a person.
The weight of every decision
Joining Beholder, players not only face the task of monitoring but also have to shoulder the role of economic pillar for the whole family. Carl does not live in luxury, the income from his official job is not enough to pay for the increasing expenses. Every penny earned must be carefully calculated. His son needs money for school, his daughter needs medical treatment, while other living expenses continue to weigh heavily on his shoulders.
Spy work requires investment in equipment such as cameras, lock picking tools or expensive surveillance tools. Meanwhile, the reward for each report from the government is not enough for Carl to manage comfortably.
