DunHero: Action Roguelike is an action role-playing game developed and published by Dev Kacper for PC and mobile platforms as a one-time purchase.
DunHero: Action Roguelike features 2D pixel graphics with a very quirky art style. As the name suggests, roguelike is the main element that builds the gameplay. Therefore, the content of DunHero: Action Roguelike is full of random elements, allowing you to play in different ways.
Gameplay of DunHero: Action Roguelike
DunHero: Action Roguelike is designed with a horizontal screen layout. You will control the character from a third-person, top-down perspective. The game provides a virtual joystick in the bottom left corner of the screen to move the character. On the right side are two sets of virtual buttons. The bottom set includes attack, dodge, and interaction buttons. The top set includes buttons for managing items, checking quests, and the map.
Combat Mechanism
You can command your character to attack using the virtual button at the bottom of the screen. Unlike other games of the same genre, in DunHero: Action Roguelike, your character will not attack automatically. Although your character will attack forward when alone, when there is an enemy within attack range, the character will automatically lock onto and attack the nearest enemy. This feature eliminates the need to adjust the character’s direction for accurate attacks, making it very convenient for the move-and-attack gameplay style.
Your character in DunHero: Action Roguelike also has a skill called “dash”. This skill allows you to move quickly in a designated direction for a brief moment. Additionally, during the dash, the character will be immune to any enemy attacks, even if those attacks are accurate. However, despite its effectiveness, you can only dash twice and must wait a short time before the dash cooldown resets.
Experience and Upgrade Cards
Each time you successfully defeat an enemy, you will receive a certain amount of experience based on their strength. Once you accumulate enough experience, you will level up, increasing your character’s health. More importantly, you can choose one of three random upgrade cards. There are four types of upgrade cards: Strength, Dexterity Intelligence, and Extra. Cards of different types enhance attack and defense capabilities according to different stats. Specifically, Extra cards provide you with many special tools that can change your gameplay, not just enhance your character’s strength.
To avoid interrupting the battle, DunHero: Action Roguelike does not display card selection immediately after leveling up. Instead, you can find a safe location and then press the virtual “arrow” button on the right side of the screen. Three random upgrade cards will then appear for you to choose from.
The Village in DunHero: Action Roguelike
After your first defeat by the monsters, you’ll respawn in the village. In DunHero: Action Roguelike, this is where you’ll find NPCs acting as vendors. You can use gold to buy valuable upgrades from them. Besides that, you’ll see shadowy figures scattered throughout the village. These are unlocked characters that aren’t yet playable. Additionally, Magic Cat, your guide from the beginning of the game, reappears in the east of the village. Seek him out if you’re unfamiliar with the gameplay of DunHero: Action Roguelike.
Once you’ve completed the necessary tasks, begin your new adventure by heading towards the village’s north gate and interacting with it. You’ll return to the village after each death or exit of a level.
