Accessible flight gameplay
When I first saw Legendary Pilots, I thought it would be a rather difficult flight simulator game, requiring me to remember all sorts of parameters. But after playing for a while, I found the game to be much easier than I expected. In reality, during gameplay, I still had to pay attention to altitude, flight direction, and fuel, but it wasn’t overly confusing. I could focus on the feeling of controlling the plane rather than staring at the dashboard.
At times during the flight, it would encounter a bad weather screen shake, and the plane would sway slightly causing me to feel nervous. The experience was such as it had the feeling of “flying a real plane” even though the controls have been simplified.
For me, this is a great point. It makes Legendary Pilots suitable for people like me who aren’t familiar with flight simulations. It still feels realistic enough, but not to the point where I’d give up because it’s too complicated. I can turn on the game, fly a few flights, enjoy the feeling of hovering in the air, and then turn it off – very relaxing.
Engaging career mode
The most noticeable thing about starting Legendary Pilots is that the game doesn’t make you a top-tier pilot right from the start. You begin quite modestly, flying short flights, small planes, and earning very little. After playing for a while, you start to feel the character “growing up.” In fact, each successful flight, each new contract opened up, makes you feel like you’re taking a step forward, even if it’s just upgrading to a slightly better plane or flying longer routes.
This feeling arises because the game lets you build your own path. No one forces you to follow a fixed script; you can choose to fly many short, safe flights or take more risks with longer routes. Some days you focus solely on earning money to buy a new plane. Other days you fly for fun, not paying much attention to profit.
Managing your own small airline
Legendary Pilots gives you the feeling of managing a small airline, not just flying. After playing for a while, I started paying attention to money matters, buying planes, maintenance, and choosing profitable routes. In fact, there was a time I bought a new plane without factoring in maintenance costs, and only felt a little “pain” when my money started dropping.
This feeling arose because the game doesn’t make management overly complicated, but it was still enough to make me think. I had to weigh whether to buy a better plane or keep using the old one for a while longer. Sometimes I chose safe routes to earn money consistently. Other times I tried new routes, even if they were riskier, just out of curiosity.
The unique retro pixel art style
There’s something I remember quite well from when I first started playing Legendary Pilots: the pixel art looks great. At first, I was a bit dubious regarding whether I would like this style. After playing it for a while, I found it to have its own charm. While playing, seeing the planes fly against the pixelated sky got me feeling like playing it was a retro game, but with a very modern feel.
This sensation arose because the aesthetic was not attempted to be as realistic as a photo but rather created a dreamlike world. I wasn’t thrown off by too many little details, but rather, I focused on the plane’s movement and its flight path. At times, I would just stare at the airplane gliding on the map and it was relaxing.
