Introduce about Balkan Mania
Balkan Mania is inspired by the culture and day to day of the Balkan region. The game feels really different from the start than other simulation games. It does not have the building of a large-scale city, nor do you have to try your best to manage. Instead, the game puts you in a small fun world, where everything…is just a little over the top, but very relatable nonetheless.
The plot of Balkan Mania is pretty basic and revolves mostly around exploration, interacting with the environment, and completing small tasks. The game doesn’t insist its players rush for top scores, allowing you to wander freely through the cheerful scenes with delightful humour throughout. Balkan Mania features cartoon-like graphics, cheerful sound effects, and a slow pace, making it a good fit for players looking for a relaxing gaming experience.
Experience racing in an open world
When I opened Balkan Mania, my first reaction was: “Wow! This isn’t just a regular racing game.” Indeed, you won’t be going around a track with twists, turns and multiple laps, but through a free-roaming world. The winding roads, through cities, through villages, to historical places… The detail with which everything is drawn makes me feel I am passing through some real Balkan region.
The atmosphere is very different; it’s not a fast-paced race but rather an exploration, occasionally speeding up and then slowing down to admire the scenery and listen to the roar of the engine. I found this interesting because I didn’t expect much at first, just thinking it was a normal racing game, but after experiencing it, I realized that developer Andronescu wanted to create a vast world, allowing you more freedom to move around rather than being forced to complete missions every second.
Diverse vehicle system
One point I think is quite noteworthy is the vehicle selection in Balkan Mania. The game doesn’t just have a few similar models; you can choose from smooth sports cars to powerful off-road vehicles – each with a different driving feel. The first time I entered the vehicle selection section, standing in front of the long row of cars, it suddenly felt like standing in a real garage.
I don’t know about you, but I tend to stick with one car from the beginning to the end of the game, especially when it’s upgraded little by little – increasing speed, adjusting the suspension for off-road, changing the paint color to make it look unique. In fact, when I played, the upgrades didn’t tire me out; instead, it made me feel that the vehicles were an important part of this game.
Diverse missions and challenges
In reality, when playing Balkan Mania, I think the game isn’t just a simple race from point A to point B. There are missions that require you to cross winding mountain passes, sometimes leading into crowded city streets, and sometimes unique challenges like having to handle a special section of road – for example, sharp turns, slippery roads… Each challenge made me stop and think for a moment before accelerating again.
Especially in the later levels, the game expands a bit more, no longer just straight roads, but sometimes into larger areas. To go fast, you have to pay attention to the corners, and to get a good time, you have to drive more skillfully. The great thing is that I didn’t feel pressured, but rather the game invited me to challenge myself. I remember once trying to drive on a narrow mountain road, braking hard a few times, and then laughing because I was still gripping the road even while going downhill.
Outstanding graphics and sound
I don’t know if anyone else is like me, but I pay close attention to the graphics and sound in racing games. Balkan Mania does this quite well; it’s not super realistic, but it’s enough to make the scenery feel vibrant. The roads, mountains, villages, cities… are all designed in such detail that you can distinguish each area after driving through them multiple times.
The roar of the engine, the sound of the brakes, and the background music also create a pleasant feeling every time I open the game. What’s noteworthy is that the sound isn’t overly loud, but it’s enough to make me feel the atmosphere of each different section of the road.
Sometimes I’m speeding down city streets, the background music invigorating me; other times it’s quiet on mountain roads, with only the sound of the engine and the wind. After playing for a while, I realized that these small details of sound and scenery make me open the game more often, like wanting to listen to more music or admire the beautiful scenery along the way.

Balkan Mania isn’t the kind of game that shows off its graphics or achievements; it’s a very personal, very real experience, true to Andronescu’s style. After playing for a while, I found it more like a leisurely journey than a stressful race, where you drive, admire the scenery, and laugh at very Balkan situations.
