Chicken Invaders 5, fully titled Chicken Invaders: Cluck of the Dark Side, is the fifth installment in the hugely popular Chicken Invaders series by InterAction Studios. The game was released on Android and iOS as a free-to-try title, allowing players to unlock the full content through in-app purchases.
Continuing the story from the previous games, Chicken Invaders 5 takes you back into outer space as the “Authentic Hero”. Piloting the Müller M404-PI Deliverer spaceship, your mission is to battle against an army of alien chickens and stop their plan to invade Earth.

Basic Movement and Attack Mechanics
Chicken Invaders 5 retains the familiar movement and combat mechanics from previous entries in the series. You simply tap anywhere on the screen (except the area containing the virtual buttons) and move your finger to control the spaceship. While moving, the ship will automatically fire its primary weapon continuously.
The game also retains the “heat” mechanic that was first introduced in the third installment of the series. As you keep firing, the heat level gradually increases. Once the heat meter reaches its maximum, the spaceship enters an “overheat” state. During this time, you temporarily cannot attack and must wait a short period for the heat level to cool down before continuing the fight.
Rapid Fire Mechanic
Chicken Invaders 5 introduces an interesting “Rapid Fire” mechanic. You can activate it by double-tapping the screen and then holding your finger in place or moving it around while holding. Once activated, the spaceship’s firing speed increases dramatically, allowing you to eliminate enemies much faster. However, the trade-off is that the heat level rises significantly faster as well, making the ship more likely to enter the “overheat” state.
Items in Chicken Invaders 5
In Chicken Invaders 5, every time you destroy a chicken, it will drop random items. Most of the time, these will be Drumsticks, Roasts, or Hamburgers. Collecting these items increases your “food”. Once the food reaches 50, you will receive an extra Super Weapon, and the food count will reset back to 0.
In addition, enemies also have a chance to drop Gift or Atomic Power-Ups. Gifts allow you to switch to a different primary weapon depending on the box’s color. If the Gift matches the weapon you are currently using, the weapon’s power level will increase by 1 instead. Meanwhile, an Atomic Power-Up directly increases the current weapon’s power level by 1 without changing the weapon type.
The final type of item is the “Key”. Although it does not provide direct combat support, it is extremely important because it serves as the currency used to unlock new content after completing stages. Unlockable content includes spaceships, weapons, and new levels. Therefore, you should try to collect every Key that appears in each stage.
Primary Weapons in Chicken Invaders 5
Chicken Invaders 5 features a total of 13 different primary weapons. At any given time, you can only use one primary weapon. As mentioned earlier, weapon strength can be upgraded during battle by collecting gift boxes or Atomic Power-Up items.
Each weapon has its own attack mechanics, damage output, fire rate, and projectile speed, creating distinct combat styles rather than functioning identically. Notably, Chicken Invaders 5 rebalanced several primary weapons, ensuring that each one has its own usefulness and role in combat instead of having obviously weak choices like in some previous entries of the series.
All primary weapons have a maximum power level of 20. As the level increases, the number of projectiles fired, projectile size, and damage output are all significantly improved. However, if your spaceship is destroyed, the primary weapon’s level will decrease. For weapons at level 10 or below, the power level will be reduced by half. Meanwhile, if the weapon is above level 10, you will lose a fixed amount of 5 power levels.
Super Weapons in Chicken Invaders 5
In addition to primary weapons, you can also collect super weapons during stages. Although they have limited uses, super weapons provide tremendous effectiveness in combat. Chicken Invaders 5 features the following two types of super weapons:
- Missiles: Launches a gigantic missile that wipes out all chickens on the screen and deals massive damage to Boss enemies.
- Mines: Deploys explosive mines across a wide area to protect your ship and clear obstacles.
