Limbus Company is a turn-based tactical RPG developed by Project Moon, set in a dark and mysterious fantasy world. Players take on the role of Dante, a character with amnesia and wearing a watch instead of a head, and taking on the position of manager of the Limbus company. The main task is to lead the Pecadores group – consisting of 13 members with their own personalities and pasts – across dangerous areas to search for the Golden Boughs hidden deep in the old facilities of Lobotomy Corporation.
The game features a multi-layered storyline, divided into chapters called “Cantos”, each chapter delves into the story of one or more characters. Basic gameplay
Limbus Company’s gameplay is a turn-based combat system where you control a party of Sinners, each with different abilities and roles. Before you go into battle, you will choose a formation and select an Identity version for each character. Each Identity has different skills, stats and fighting styles, which helps create a variety of tactics. During combat you will link attacks of the same color “Sin Affinity” to initiate a resonance effect, continuing to deal damage and maximize combo chains.
The game uses a coin toss mechanism to determine the final power of each attack, which is affected by the character’s “Sanity” level. When Sanity is high, the maximum damage will be greater. In addition to normal skills, players can activate E.G.O – a powerful skill that requires resource consumption and can change the outcome of the battle. However, if used when Sanity is low, E.G.O can go out of control and harm allies.
Diverse character system
In Limbus Company, every member of Pecadores has a different version of the same Identity – or timeline/reality – to actualize. Every Identity has different skills, stats, and fighting styles, giving players the opportunity to change tactics according to the situation. Additionally, each character has a separate ability called E.G.O as a special skills that takes a certain amount of resources and “Sanity” in order to use the E.G.O attack.
When Sanity is low, E.G.O can get out of control and cause unwanted consequences, creating more strategic depth. Collecting and upgrading Identities opens up many ways to approach battles, while encouraging players to experiment with new formations to find the most effective combination. This system makes each formation creative and unique.
Graphic and sound
Limbus Company features a dark artistic style characterized by gothic influences and a hint of surrealism. The game employs a saturated color palette and maintains exquisite detail throughout the character designs. The Sinners are created with deep consideration for their appearance, expression and gesture to truly portray their personality and background. The environments the game uses creates a heavily distraught dystopian city, combining mechanical structures with traditional architecture, and surreal areas.
The music by the Mili team creates a mysterious and dramatic atmosphere, strongly supporting the emotions of the scenes.
