Drive Mad is an obstacle course driving game. The game features simple voxel-style 3D graphics. Drive Mad is developed and published by Poki.com on both Android and iOS platforms.
Introduction about Drive Mad
Drive Mad is designed with a horizontal screen layout, with the camera angle positioned horizontally relative to the terrain. Throughout the game, you control a monster truck with enormous wheels. You can tap the right side of the screen to move the truck forward, and tap the left side to move it backward. Your task is to overcome all obstacles on the terrain to reach the finish line. The finish line of a stage is located at the end of the terrain. You win the stage if the truck reaches the finish line.
If your truck flips over and its body touches the ground, the truck will be damaged immediately, meaning you fail that stage. You can tap the “Retry” button to play again immediately.
Well-designed physical system
The physics system is what makes Drive Mad a special game. For your truck, the physics primarily come from the tires. The terrain below can impact the tires, thereby creating a force that affects the entire vehicle. The game designs the tires to have elastic properties similar to real-life rubber, allowing your truck to bounce very strongly. With such a mechanism, the truck can flip forward or backward, making it extremely unpredictable.
Controlling your truck’s speed along with its physics engine is key to overcoming the stages in Drive Mad. For obstacles, you should accelerate your truck slightly, going too slowly will give it enough power to overcome them. However, be careful, because going too fast can cause the impact of the obstacle on your tires, instantly flipping your truck over.
You can control the vehicle even when the wheels aren’t touching the ground. Therefore, if your vehicle shows signs of tipping over, quickly take control to bring it back to a balanced position.
Diverse stage designs
Drive Mad has a total of 265 different stages, divided into 4 modes: Classic, Space, Winter, and Monster Truck. You can access any mode right from the start of the game. Each time you complete a stage in a mode, the next stage will be unlocked. The modes in Drive Mad also have some special mechanics, specifically as follows:
Classic: The most basic mode, all parameters regarding gravity and terrain slippage are set to default. This is also the mode with the most stages, totaling 200 stages.
Space: You’ll take on the challenge of driving a monster truck in outer space. Gravity is very weak in this mode, so your vehicle will fly very high. There are 15 stages in this mode. Some stages even allow you to control a flying vehicle without wheels.
Winter: The terrain in this mode is covered in snow. Therefore, your vehicle will experience greater inertia, meaning it’s harder to control. Additionally, in some stages, you’ll be controlling a snowmobile without wheels. This mode has 25 stages.
Monster Truck: The gravity and terrain slip parameters are the same as in Classic mode. However, the terrain design in this mode is extremely challenging. Additionally, some stages feature AI-controlled vehicles, making it even more difficult. There are a total of 25 stages in this mode.
Strange monster trucks in the game
Despite the absence of a trading and collection system, Drive Mad offers players a wide variety of monster trucks. Different vehicles appear in certain stages, each with incredibly bizarre designs. Some have box-shaped wheels, others are very tall and have springs attached to their bodies, and so on. The vehicles’ designs also significantly impact gameplay due to the game’s physics system. Therefore, not only the stage design but also the vehicle design contributes to the game’s diverse gameplay.
