Basic gameplay of Last Battle
Like most hyper-casual games, Last Battle features a vertical screen layout. In the game, you control a squad of soldiers fighting against hordes of bloodthirsty zombies. Your battle with the zombies takes place on a straight line in each level. The zombies will attack from a distance, trying to reach and eliminate your squad. On the opposite side, your squad will hold their ground at the bottom of the screen, continuously firing forward to completely eliminate the zombies.
In terms of controls, you only need to use one finger to swipe the screen left or right to move the entire squad in the corresponding direction. Throughout the entire level, the squad will automatically fire forward; you don’t need to press any buttons for attack. Additionally, when attacking, all members of the squad will fire simultaneously, not alternately. This means a lot of bullets will be fired during the squad’s attack, but no bullets will be fired between attacks. Therefore, if your squad is armed with weapons that have a slow rate of fire, direct them to the area with the most zombies possible when they attack. This way, more bullets will hit the zombies.
Winning and losing in Last Battle
In Last Battle, there’s a yellow progress bar on the right side of the screen. You win if your squad has at least one soldier left when the progress bar is full. Conversely, you lose if your squad is completely wiped out at any point in the level. Winning the level will unlock new content, new levels, and give you a significant amount of coins.
Squad upgrade mechanism
After completing a level, whether you win or lose, you’ll upgrade your squad. Last Battle has three types of upgrades: Start Units, Fire Rate, and Damage. Each Start Units upgrade adds one more soldier to your squad at the start of the level. Similarly, each Fire Rate and Damage upgrade increases the squad’s firing speed and damage per bullet at the beginning of the level. Note that for the same type of upgrade, the number of coins you need to spend for each upgrade will gradually increase.
Damage dealt to Zombies
Zombies take the exact amount of damage from each bullet. For example, with your starting weapon and having upgraded Damage to level 3, zombies will take 3 damage each time they are hit by a bullet. The larger the zombie, the more likely it is to be hit by multiple bullets.
Wooden barrels in Last Battle
Wooden barrels are frequently found in Last Battle. They often contain weapons and upgrades. Each barrel displays a stat. Each bullet that hits the barrel reduces this stat by 1, regardless of the bullet’s damage. When the stat reaches 0, the barrel is destroyed, and you can collect the items on top of it.
Clone gates in Last Battle
This is an object with a rather interesting mechanism in Last Battle. At certain points in the game, several clone gates will approach your squad. There are two types of clone gates. One type is blue, with a number with a plus or multiplication sign on the front. Passing through this gate will increase the number of people in your squad according to the formula: current number of people plus or multiplied by the number in the gate. The other type is red, with a number with a minus or division sign on the front. Passing through this gate will decrease the number of people in your squad, according to the same formula as above.
You can turn red gates blue by continuously shooting at them. Each time you hit a bullet, the numerical value of the red gate will decrease and switch to the blue gate when the value reaches 0. For blue gates, being hit will increase its value, allowing your squad to have more people when passing through it. However, after a bullet increases the value of the blue gate, that gate will need a short period of time before it can increase in value again.
