Parasite Zero is a horror-themed adventure game. It’s the first product, completed after 5 months, by a developer nicknamed Exciting-Hour1295 on Reddit. The game is released on Android as a free download.
The Setting of Parasite Zero
In Parasite Zero, you’re not a hero, you’re a threat. You’re a product of an experiment by a group of scientists led by a deranged doctor. One day, you awaken and free yourself from your containment. You take on the form of a monstrous creature, along with a wild and bloodthirsty instinct. Your task is to find all living creatures, capture them, and eat them to satisfy your gnawing hunger.
Gameplay of Parasite Zero
The parasite you control in Parasite Zero resembles a caterpillar, with long, flexible tentacles at its head. These tentacles can cling to any surface and quickly pull its entire body to that location. Upon seeing any living creature, such as humans or animals, the monster’s tentacles will immediately grab it and pull it into the parasite’s mouth.
You can control the parasite using the virtual joystick in the bottom left corner of the screen. Besides that, Parasite Zero has no other controls. You just need to move, and the parasite will do its job of eating and killing.
Leveling up and acquiring skills
Every time your parasite eats a human creature, they will drop coins. Collecting coins will help your parasite increase its level points. When your points are full, you will level up and be able to choose one of three random skills. These skills can give you more tools to fight, increase your coin accumulation, etc. However, unlike roguelike games, the skills you receive are not effective for the entire duration of the level. They have a time limit and are deactivated after the time runs out. Therefore, you need to act quickly to avoid wasting skills.
You can acquire new skills even if your current skills haven’t expired. At the same time, you can carry a maximum of 5 different skills, and they will be active simultaneously. If, after leveling up, you choose a skill you already have, its duration will be reset.
Skill upgrades in Parasite Zero
After each level, whether you win or lose, you will receive a certain amount of Ruby. Naturally, winning a level will give you more Ruby than losing. You can use Ruby to unlock new skills and upgrade the parasite’s skills. These skills are the ones you will receive when you level up in the level. Upgrading will amplify the effectiveness of the skills many times over. Each skill has a maximum of 10 levels. The amount of Ruby you use to upgrade will increase with each level. Newly unlocked skills will have a chance to appear in the next level.
Skills in Parasite Zero
Gun: Appears at the start without needing to be unlocked. Creates a gun on the body and fires at the nearest enemy for the duration.
Drone: You must unlock this skill for it to appear in the game. When activated, the parasite creates a small monster that fires rockets at enemies for the duration.
Wheel: Similar to Drone, you must unlock this skill. When activated, the parasite creates a small monster that flies around in a circular orbit, dealing damage to any enemies it collides with.
Magnet: Attracts surrounding coins when activated. Upgrading increases the skill’s range.
2x Coin: Doubles the accumulated points for each coin you collect.
Health: Passive skill, permanently increases the parasite’s health after upgrading. Does not need to be collected in the game to activate.
Tentacles: Passive ability, permanently increases one of the parasite’s tentacles after upgrading. Does not require collection during gameplay to take effect.
