Ashes of Paradise is a real-time combat role-playing game. The game features somewhat retro 3D graphics, but runs very well even on low-end phones. Developed by Aetherion Games, Ashes of Paradise is available on Google Play and the App Store as a one-time purchase.
The setting in Ashes of Paradise
The world of Aetherion is ravaged by evil spirits. These spirits, known as the Malbadur, have summoned five rifts and corrupted Aetherion. You will play as a skilled warrior. Your mission is to fight against the monsters created by the Malbadur, thwart their plans, and save Aetherion.
Ashes of Paradise’s visual design
Ashes of Paradise’s graphics are built on Unreal Engine, a fairly well-known game creation tool. However, the game opts for a retro low-poly style, making the graphics look quite similar to games published on the PS2 or Xbox. Objects in the world of Ashes of Paradise are designed with a relatively low grid density. The game also doesn’t employ techniques for artificial detail, complex light reflections, or enhanced depth of field. Instead, all the details in the world of Ashes of Paradise rely on the textures of the objects.

Control and interaction mechanism
Like other games in its genre, Ashes of Paradise features a horizontal screen layout. You have a virtual joystick on the bottom left of the screen to move the main character. On the right are virtual buttons for character actions including: attack; change weapons, dodge, jump. In the center of the bottom of the screen are 6 skill slots, evenly divided between the two weapon types. Next to these are a button to summon a mount and a button to open the inventory. For interactive objects such as doors or chests, you need to tap two fingers simultaneously for the character to interact with them.
Ashes of Paradise’s combat mechanism design
A unique feature of Ashes of Paradise’s combat mechanism is the ability to attack and switch weapons. You can carry two weapons simultaneously, each with its own distinct skills. When you repeatedly press the attack button, your character will attack forward in a series of moves, dealing more damage with the final blow. As mentioned above, you have 6 skill slots evenly distributed among each weapon. However, you can only use the skills of the weapon you are currently holding. Therefore, in combat, be flexible and switch weapons frequently to utilize all the skills.
Dash is a very powerful feature in Ashes of Paradise. When dashing, your character will roll a short distance in the designated direction. What makes this feature powerful is its damage immunity. While dashing, all enemy attacks will not deal any damage to you. Using this feature effectively will allow your character to dodge attacks without having to run far away from the enemy. However, dashing consumes EST. Therefore, you cannot dash continuously; you must wait for this EST to regenerate after a short period of time.
Ashes of Paradise is a very difficult game.
High difficulty is a defining characteristic of Ashes of Paradise’s gameplay. All the enemies you encounter have relatively large amounts of health and very powerful attack capabilities. Especially the bosses; regardless of the quality of your equipment, just a few hits from them will put your character in danger.
