Zoeti is a turn-based strategy card game with roguelike elements. Developed by Dusklight CO., LTD and published by Akupara Games, Zoeti is currently available on various game distribution platforms as a one-time purchase.
In Zoeti, you’ll team up with Valentina, using playing cards to battle monsters and save the world.
Zoeti’s Basic Gameplay
Zoeti combines turn-based combat and poker gameplay. In combat, Valentina – the character you control – stands on the left, with the enemy on the right. Your hand is displayed at the bottom of the screen. You can use cards to perform actions such as attacking, defending, or using skills. This is done by dragging and dropping cards onto the battlefield. If you want to use a combination, such as a pair or a set of three, tap on the cards that can be combined into a combination, then drag and drop them onto the battlefield.
Zoeti’s Card Drawing Mechanism
At the beginning of each turn, you will draw a certain number of cards from your Deck, defaulting to 6. You can track the number of cards drawn in the next turn and the maximum number of cards in your hand in the bottom right corner of the screen. Note that, in the next turn, if your hand is close to the maximum number of cards, you will only draw enough cards to keep you at that maximum. After each turn, any cards remaining in your hand will be held until the next turn.
The cards used will be sent to the Discard Pile. When the Deck does not have enough cards to draw, the cards in the Discard Pile will be returned to the Deck.
Battle with cards
Valentina’s actions depend on how you play your cards. For example, in the early stages, if you play a single card, she will attack; if you play a pair, she will use a defensive skill. Zoeti has a rather interesting mechanism; the game doesn’t limit your combat ability in a turn with action points or any similar stats. This means Valentina can fight in that turn until she runs out of cards, or you actively end the turn, or you are hit by crowd control effects that force you to end the turn.
Valentina won’t have skills available when you use a Two Pair or higher combination. After defeating an enemy, the game will offer three upgrades. You can choose one of these three upgrades. Through the aforementioned mechanism, you can unlock additional skills from such combinations after defeating enemies.
Combination cards that you can use
In Zoeti, you can combine cards into combinations like the ones below so Valentina can use her corresponding skills:
- Single: A single card.
- One Pair: Two cards of the same number.
- Two Pair: As the name suggests, four cards combine to form two pairs.
- Mini Flush: Three cards of the same suit.
- Three of a Kind: Three cards of the same number.
- Straight: Five cards in ascending order of numbers.
- Full House: Five cards, including a pair and a three of a kind.
- Straight Flush: Five consecutive cards of the same suit.
If you don’t want to look at each card and choose manually, you can tap the icons directly on the cards to have the game automatically find and combine them into a corresponding set (if available) for you.
Manage Valentina’s skills
After playing Zoeti for a while, you’ll have many skills. However, you can only assign one skill to each combination. When not in battle, you can change Valentina’s skills of each combination by tapping the virtual “sword and shield” button in the upper right corner of the screen. Skills will have a tag above their icon. A skill with a specific tag can only be used in the corresponding combination. For example, a skill tagged “Full House” can only be activated when you have a complete Full House combination.
