NTE: Neverness to Everness is a supernatural urban open-world RPG. Developed by Hotta Studio and published by N2E Entertainment. From its initial trailers to its official release, the game garnered significant attention. Its open-world street style, inspired by GTA, was something unprecedented in gacha games.
The vast city of NTE: Neverness to Everness
The most striking feature of NTE: Neverness to Everness is its incredibly vast city. Named “Hethereau,” the game’s city spans thousands of square kilometers and continues to expand in future updates. Hethereau boasts skyscrapers and luxury in the New Herland District, bustling neighborhoods in Bridge Crossing, and cinematic mountain ranges and scenic landscapes in Unheard Shores. You can spend plenty of time strolling through the streets, browsing shops, or driving along the avenues.

Inside the vast Hetheau lies a bustling life of NPCs. In most other open-world anime-themed gacha games, NPCs are rarely encountered or simply stand still in designated locations. Unlike such games, NTE: Neverness to Everness features a densely populated community of NPCs scattered throughout the city. They drive on the roads, stroll through the streets. You can meet and interact with anyone along the way, making the world of NTE: Neverness to Everness incredibly vibrant, despite being a single-player game.
Things you can do in NTE: Neverness to Everness
Due to censorship and age restrictions, everything NTE: Neverness to Everness learned from GTA had to be modified and presented in its own way. You can attack city residents and their vehicles, but you cannot harm them with vehicles. Some violent actions commonly seen in GTA have also been toned down to appeal to a wider audience. However, you are still free to cause trouble and drive however you want. Of course, if you attack or vandalize people’s property, they will react verbally, retaliate, or report you to the city’s security forces.
The game also features a wanted system. If you cause too much trouble, the in-game security forces will immediately take action to stop you. Depending on the level of your mischief and resistance, your wanted level can increase from 1 star to a maximum of 4 stars. The higher the wanted level, the more numerous and powerful the security forces will be. NTE: Neverness to Everness even includes a prison, where you will be sent if caught by the security forces.
NTE: Neverness to Everness does not have a carjacking feature like GTA. Instead, the game has a feature called “Requisition”. If you need a vehicle to get around, you can ask locals to give you their car. This feature is not considered a crime. The car you requisition is also not considered your property and cannot be kept or used for missions.
The visually appealing and distinctive characters
As a gacha game operating on a live-service model, the characters are the sole revenue-generating element of NTE: Neverness to Everness. The game’s characters are designed using cel-shader technology on the Unreal Engine 5, resulting in extremely beautiful and detailed visuals. Each character also has a distinctive design and is voiced in English, Chinese, Korean, and Japanese.
Combat mechanics in NTE: Neverness to Everness
NTE: Neverness to Everness features high-speed combat and requires a high level of skill. You can build a team of up to 4 characters. At any given time, only one character is on the field fighting, while the other 3 are in reserve. You can switch characters at any time. The game has a Break mechanism; when an enemy’s stamina drops to zero, they will be Breaked and unable to perform any actions for a short period. During this time, attack continuously to maximize your damage output against the enemy.
In combat, the character has quite a few skills you can use. The character’s skills can be summarized as follows:
Basic Attack: Can attack quickly and continuously, without consuming energy.
Plunge Attack: Performed when using a Basic Attack while the character is airborne; deals AoE damage depending on the character’s altitude.
Redirect Skill: Character-specific tools defining individual roles, often featuring resource generation or crowd control.
Ultimate: High-impact abilities requiring a full energy meter.
